River Anker Accessible Pegs

The committee was contacted by one of our members who together with his friend were experiencing difficulty fishing our section of the River Anker. Both members having health issues as well as mobility problems and accessing the pegs had become very difficult to say the least. We were asked if it was possible that a couple of pegs in the first meadow could be made with easier access to allow them to continue fishing.

Due to the limited resources of labour over the years we have not been able to maintain our rivers as well as the committee would like. We have also not been helped trying to arrange work parties by the continual flooding during most of the close season restricting getting vehicles across the meadows to get near the river.

Sutton Coldfield Angling Society has always been a member friendly club so we all agreed we needed to come up with a solution to allow any of our members with mobility difficulties a couple of accessible pegs to allow them to continue fishing. The two pegs have been constructed in the first meadow next to each other, one has steps down and a platform with the other a platform set at bank height.

Will our member who made the request for accessible pegs came down to try them out as we endeavoured to complete them for the start of the season which we just managed to do.

The two pegs are available for all members to fish from but if a member arrives to fish with mobility difficulties they must vacated when requested.
