River Tame Elford

Brief description of fishery:

We have approximately just over a mile of riverbank which is very much unchartered territory for us, so it will be up to the members to find out its potential.
Walking the bank there are some lovely slow bends with depths up to at least 6 foot plus shallow fast water over gravel with streamer weed, so a mixture of trotting, ledgering or floating crust could well be successful.
There are no pegs cut as this being a previously an unfished water so it could well be finding your own peg to fish but we know of one angler that has had permission from the farmer and has taken chub to just shy of 6lbs. We know chub, pike, perch and roach are present and imagine Barbel and various other species are present but as yet it is very much unknown what fish and sizes are in the stretch.
When entering the meadow at either end please climb over the gate to access the river leaving the gate secure and to ensure there is no escape of livestock. Cattle graze on the meadow during the summer so there is a barbed wire fence around the perimeter that has to be negotiated to access the river bank and beware of the cattle with calves, strictly no dogs allowed

Address

Set just off the Fisherwick road between Elford and Whittington with one entrance virtually opposite the turning to our Stubby Leas lake. This entrance is shared with the microlight school and clay pigeon shooting ground both on the left hand side as you follow the track down towards the river. When you leave the Fisherwick road there is a gated entrance with a combination lock (code emailed to members) always lock the gate when entering or leaving. Following the track past the microlight runway bring your vehicle to a halt while planes are taking off or landing and proceed along the track at 10 mph. When you reach the end of the track over the bridge above a stream you can park.

The second entrance is further along the Fisherwick road about a mile, then turn left on to the Old Fisherwick road before going over the main railway line. Proceed 50 yards on the road then turn left at the crossroads, travel another 100 yards to there the track splits and take the left hand track where you will find a gated entrance with a combination lock (code emailed to members) always lock the when entering or leaving. Follow the track past paddocks and a model aircraft field to the end of the track about a 1000 yards where you can park.
